1. Dainese Womens Impact Shorts

Protection: Spot on. Dainese shorts are thebusiness. They have hard topped protection where you need it, but it’ssoft underneath to cushion the impact. The padding is thicker on the Demon shorts, but there’s still plenty of protection. 4/5

Comfort: Made from lycra and lycra mesh, it’s unlikely you’d feel any discomfort while wearing these. 4/5

Does my bum look big in these: Big-ish. There issome padding to give you a bit of a J-Lo butt, but nothing that’ll makeyou look obese. If only they didn’t look like granny pants, eh? 3/5

Total: 11/15. BUT, these are super pricey at £74.95, and I know they’ll be underneath your boarding pants and everything, but they are the ugliest of the bunch.

2. Demon Exo-Skel Impact Shorts

Protection: Mega. It’s likely that if you fall onyour bum in these, you’ll hardly feel it. As a bonus, when sitting onthe chairlift, it feels like you’re sitting on a cushion. A warm one.As well as superfilled pads in all the important places (including yourhips) there’s optional hard shells that velcro on top. Perfect for yourtailbone but a little over the top on thighs (unless you might fall ona rail that is). 5/5

Comfort: Good over thermals, scratchy if you’re just wearing them over your skin. 3/5

Does my bum look big in this:In a word, yes. Massive protection equals a massive bum. If you havetight fitting pants, forget it. If you wear them baggy, you’ll justabout hide them. 1/5

3. Pro-Tec IPS Hip Pad Impact Shorts

Protection: So-so. If you land on your bum, thesewill cushion the fall a little. If you slam onto your tailbone, itwon’t even feel like you’re wearing anything. Believe me, I know. Thepadding is gel-filled and not all that thick, but it covers all themain slam areas. 2/5

Comfort: First class. The fabric is smooth and softagainst skin and there’s no bits that dig in. Where there’s notpadding, there’s mesh, so you’ll not overheat. 4/5

Does my bum look big in these:Not really. It might look a bit bumpy if you bend over totally, butother than that, this won’t add any significant girth to your behind. 4/5

4. Burton R.E.D Womens Impact Shorts

Protection: Very little. While last year’s modelwas padded up to the max, this year there’s little more than a layer offabric to save you. 0/5

Comfort: Yes, these are super comfortable. The reason - they are lyrca shorts, and not much else. 0/5

Does my bum look big in these: Er no, but who cares if your bum looks big if you have a smashed tailbone? 0/5

Total: 0/15 - there’s really no point in these to be honest. Spend your money on something that actually has some protection.
